The Sow Goddess was revered in ancient times. Cerridwen is the Scottish or Welsh grain and sow goddess, keeper of the cauldron of inspiration and goddess of transformation. As the “white sow,” Cerridwen takes on the aspect of the Great Crone Goddess. The sow is totem of the Sacred Mother keeper of Earth magick symbolizing good fortune and spiritual growth. In ancient Greece, the sow was sacred Demeter in art she was portrayed carrying or accompanied by a pig, and the pig was regularly sacrificed in her mysteries.

The sow is amiable in temperament, intelligent, affectionate, adaptable and know intuitively how to respond to a situation. She is also the fertile mother surrounded by her hungry brood with the well rounded body of plenty.
